1) (истина) truth [-uːθ]

э́то пра́вда — it is the truth; (это верно) it is true

э́то су́щая / и́стинная пра́вда — that is the exact / real truth

в его́ слова́х мно́го пра́вды — there is a great deal of truth in what he says [sez]

в э́том нет ни сло́ва пра́вды — there is not a word of truth in it

2) (справедливость) justice

иска́ть пра́вды — seek justice

стоя́ть за пра́вду — fight for justice

пострада́ть за пра́вду — suffer in the cause of justice

3) как вводн. сл. true; (хотя) though

пра́вда, он не тако́й плохо́й рабо́тник — true, he is not such a bad worker; he is not such a bad worker, though

он, пра́вда, уже́ уе́хал — as a matter of fact, he has left already

пра́вда, я с ва́ми не согла́сен, но ... — though I don't agree with you, yet ...

пра́вда, э́то не он, а его́ брат, но э́то нева́жно — it's not him but his brother, but that doesn't matter

4) как нареч. разг. (в самом деле; тж. и пра́вда) indeed, truly, honestly ['ɒ-]

я пра́вда ничего́ не зна́ю — I really / honestly don't know anything

он и пра́вда зако́нчил рабо́ту? — did he indeed finish the work?

5) как вопросит. частица (пра́вда?) is that true?, really?; в конце предложения тж. right?; передаётся тж. конструкцией разделительного вопроса

мы всегда́ бу́дем вме́сте, пра́вда? — we shall always be together, shan't we?

вы ведь не расска́жете роди́телям, пра́вда? — you won't tell my parents about it, will you?
